Which areas have the greatest temperauter fluctuations?

Filled under:

great temparature fluctuations
The greatest temperature fluctuations in the course of as single day often occur in the Earth's great deserts, such as the Atacama in South America and the Sahara in Africa. There the ground is only heated near the surface because it is covered in loosely packed quartz sand, which does not conduct heat very efficiently. In addition, dry desert soil can store far less heat than damp soil.

The lack of cloud during the day means that the rays of the Sun are rarely interrupted before they strike the ground, with the result that temperatures can rise as high as 70°C. At night, however, the small amount of stored heat can radiate away unhindered back into the atmosphere. Because of this, temperature differences of 30°C in a single day are common, with extreme fluctuations of up to 50°C possible. Somewhat surprisingly, however, the greatest recorded temperature fluctuation over an extended period of time was on the plains of Siberia, where the town of Verkhoyansk has recorded a temperature fluctuation of 104°C. The highest temperature measured there reached 36°C, and the lowest-68°C. Verkhoyansk also holds the record for the lowest temperature ever recorded in Siberia.

Sugar in the Petrol tank of a Car (or) Bike will stop it working.

Filled under:

Sugar in Car stop working
Would-be saboteurs will have to come up with a different way of preventing people from driving off in their cars. Most foreign matter has no effect on modern cars, since the fuel has to pass through several filters on its ways from the tank to the engine. Sugar, in particular, would be useless since it would come nowhere near the filters, let alone pass through them, because it is not soluble in petrol. It would simply sink to the bottom of the tank. The only way of stopping an engine with sugar would be by adding so much that it completely covers the tank outlet, preventing any petrol from reaching the engine. Sand would do that job just as well.

The old movie trick of sticking a banana into the exhaust pipe to stop a car is also a myth. In no time at all the pressure created by the exhaust fumes would forcibly expel the obstruction.

How are languages classified?

Filled under:

To this day, linguists have still not  been able to definitively classify every language family and its members. Just as there are animals and plants that are yet to be fitted neatly into the schemes that taxonomists have constructed, linguists are still unable to assign many minor languages to their correct language family. It is also the case that experts often disagree about whether something is a language or a dialect, and that affects how many members are accepted for a particular family.

Here are just some of the language families that most researchers agree have more than 30 members languages:Niger-Congo, Austronesian, Trans-New Guinea, Afro-Asiatic, Sino-Tibetan, Indo European, Nilo-Saharan, Austro-Asiatic, Sepik-Ramu, Arawakan, Tupi, Tai-Kadai, Torricelli, Carib, deaf sign lnaguages, Oto-Monguean, Dravidian, Hmong-Mien, Macro-Ge, Quechuan, Panoan, East-Papuan, Mayan, Geelvink Bay, Uto-Aztecan, Uralic, Tucanoan.
In total, researches have so far distinguished more than 100 languages families. In addition there are language isolates whose membership has yet to be determined. Korean is among the better known languages isolates.
