Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest point in Africa, lies in Tanzania just south of the Kenyan border. Rising 5895 meters above the sea level, Kilimanjaro is the tallest mountain in Africa, and the world's highest free standing mountain.
It has three volcanic cones, mawenzi, shira and kibo. Mawenzi and Shira are extinct, but kibo, the highest peak, is dormant and could erupt again.
you may see elephants, buffalo, and eland on the northern slope, black and white colobus monkeys, and Sykes monkeys in the forest belt, as well as birds such as augur buzzards. the mountain's name comes from Kilma Njaro' meaning 'shining mountain' in swah.
