How many stars are there in the sky

With the naked eye and under favorable conditions – a moonless night well away from city lights - some 3000stars can be seen in the sky. But one look through even a modest telescope reveals that many more stars exist, especially in the shimmering strip of the Milky Way. In fact, our galaxy alone contains about 200 billion stars.
