Red rain is a phenomenon that has long been the subject of scientific investigation and one that continues to amaze humans who witness it. When red rain falls from the sky t leaves behind a reddish dust on the ground and can even give a pink tinge to snowy alpine peaks. In some areas, red rain is also known as 'Blood rain', a term that was used for the phenomenon during the middle Ages.
Scientists have found that the sand from the Sahara Desert can be carried through the air for thousands of kilometers. Southern winds carry the desert sand across France and Italy all the way to Central Europe. If the dust combines with rain it pours down in the form of red rain.
