Why are the Crooked Forest and Bamboo Forest amazing?

Filled under:

The Crooked forest in poland is a forest of about 400 pine trees that grow with a 90 degree bend at the base of their trunks, before rising vertically again.

All the trunks are curved, and bend towards  the same direction- northward. the cause of the curvature appears to be man-made, and it is estimated that the trees were allowed to grow for seven or ten years before being held down. it has been suggested that a group of farmers manipulated the trees after planting them in 1930. Apparently, the farmers hoped to make furniture from the bent shapes. Before the trees could be harvested, the outbreak of the second world war interrupted their plans, leaving the trees mysteriously crooked.

The Arashiyama bamboo forest in japan is one of the most beautiful natural places in the whole of Japan, not only because of its exotic giant bamboos, but also because of the sound the wind makes as it blows through the thick bamboo grove.
