Have you noticed how some flowers are brightly colored, while others are not? The reason is that bright colors attract the insects that pollinate flowers. Pollination is the process by which pollen from the male part of a plant is transferred to the egg in the female part of the plant, to form a seed. The seed has everything that is needed to form a new plant, so, pollination is very important for a plant species to survive.
An insect is generally attracted to a flower because of its bright color, or sweet fragrance. When it lands on the flower to drink the sugary liquid called nectar, pollen is transferred to its body, and this pollen is rubbed off on the female part of the flower. Flowers that are not brightly colored or fragrant, are pollinated by the wind- that is, the wind carries the pollen from the male part to the female part of the flower to form the seed.
