What do we know about carnivorous plants?

The word carnivorous means 'meat eating'. Some plants kill and eat insects, and other small animals. These plants are usually found in regions where the soil is poor in minerals, so the plants get the nutrients they need by eating meat.

Carnivorous plants use tricky ways to get their meal. For example, the bladder wort that looks so small and delicate, is the fastest- known killer of the plant kingdom. It is able to suck in unsuspecting mosquito larvae in 1/50, of a second using a trap door. Sun dews and butterworts catch their pray with flypaper- like stickiness, while the Venus flytrap snaps shut on its victims. Some pitcher plants trap frogs.
