How much more powerful can microchip become?

Filled under:

The power of a computer chip is directly dependent on the number of transistors it can accommodate. The individual features etched into a silicon chip now measure only 65millionths of a millimeter (65 manometers) in width. By 2008 this number could rise to 1billion transistors, and with even smaller structures below 30 nano meters coming onto the market, this number could multiply in the next few years. A chip's computing power will increase in parallel.
