Every power plug in the world has at least two pins-whether direct or alternating current is in use. The two wires in the lead form part of the circuit which is completed when a lamp, toaster or computer is switched on, so a 2-pin plug is sufficient for these jobs. The third wire connected in a 3-pin plug is the earth wire, which takes currents safely to earth if a fault occurs in a device.
