Why is the herb layer of a forest an interesting place?

 Herbs are small plants that have soft grasses are herbs. Herbs make up a layer beneath the shrub layer of a forest. This layer consists of plants like ferns, mosses, and mushrooms that grow close to the ground.

The herb layer is often at its most beautiful in spring, when wind flowers like violets bloom. It is an important source of food for caterpillars and other insects, and the most interesting life of the forest is found in the habitat of the ferns, grasses and other herbs.

Mice, insects, snakes, wood turtles, toads, and many other creatures, including some species of birds, live in the herb layer. Deer hide their young in this layer, while other animals conceal themselves in it while stalking their prey. In short, there is always something happening in the herb layer of a forest.
