What is the role of the Development and Educational Communication Unit( DECU ) in ISRO ?

The DECU is the Development and Educational Communication Unit of ISRO. Its functions include the planning, implementation, research and evaluation of satellite- based applications for the benefit of society. The major programmes of DECU include tele- medicine, tele- education, and the Gramsat Programme, which includes the training and development of communication channels.

The DECU also supports satcom networks that use satellites positioned in space for voice and data telecommunications. DECU houses state- of the art- programme production equipment and facilities, and produces video programmes related to ISRO, space and science. It is also involved in education, and the creation of awareness through theme- based video programmes, and documentaries.
