Mars Mission in India

The Mars Mission will be ISRO's first interplanetary mission and one filled with excitement and challenges. Its success will demonstrate India's technological capability to send a satellite to orbit around Mars, and conduct meaningful experiments, such as looking for signs of life.

The space craft, which alone costs Rs. 150 crore out of the total of Rs. 450 crore estimate expenditure on the space mission, is currently undergoing vibration and acoustic tests, at ISRO's satellite integration and testing establishment.

After leaving Earth's orbit, the spacecraft will cruise in deep space for about ten months, till it reaches the Martian transfer trajectory. One of the important goals of the mission is to find whether there is methane on Mars, for methane is considered an essential chemical for life on Mars.
